Eating Local Grown Food A Good Idea

Eating Local Grown Food A Good Idea

Eating Local Grown Food A Good Idea and as my husband Tim and I found ourselves on I-985 North headed to the North Georgia mountains last Saturday we wheeled into a Farm Market.  Tim leads a men’s group at Frst Presbyterian Church and Jim and Clancy Buckler invited the whole bunch up for the day to their cabin at Lake Burton.  My travel plans included a stop at Jaemor Farm Market because it is peach season in North Georgia and I love fresh peaches.

Jaemor FarmsWe pulled in a packed parking lot and it was wall to wall peaches on the benches at the front of the market.  Several of the varieties were not familiar to me so I asked one of the young men working there for some advice.  “Go with the O’Henry” he said.  I bought a large basket of peaches and started looking around for more goodies.

Tim and I also bought locally grown green peppers, shelled peas and sweet potatoes.  Everything we bought was about half the price of our local grocery store.

We also took advantage of fried peach pies made and sold at Jaemor.  They were delicious.  This is a real Georgia treat.

I was surprised to learn Jaemor has a website (but should not have been given the size of the market).

You still have time to buy locally grown peaches.  And even if you are late for peaches, the next season is apples.  Oh, and then there are pumpkins and squashes.  So many good things to eat.  So little time!

Think globally, eat locally!
