Clean Old Fashioned Hate: Georgia versus Georgia Tech
We spent a fabulous Saturday morning and afternoon with friends celebrating college football at the Georgia versus Georgia Tech game. The Georgia versus Georgia Tech rivalry is often categorized as clean old fashioned hate. Honestly, there is no love lost between these two rivals. Our youngest daughter Hannah has entered the fray on the side of the red and black (Georgia Bulldawgs). Until this point, we had enjoyed the contest from the sidelines as our Vanderbilt background allowed us a seat in the neutral zone.
The Georgia versus Georgia Tech game is held on Georgia Tech’s campus in Atlanta, Georgia every other year. On alternate years the game is played in Athens, Georgia at the University of Georgia Football stadium. It is an exciting event and everyone has a definite favorite. Straddling the line between the two teams is not tolerated. Even if you have no particular leaning for one team or another – fans will press you to make a decision on the spot. Wearing either red or gold pretty much seals the deal that you have chosen a favorite in the Georgia versus Georgia Tech football game.
Tailgating – ie a picnic on the grounds of the University Campus – is a time honored tradition in the south. Boxes of fried chicken, potato salad, chips and dip are gobbled down while sipping on cold beer or a glass of whiskey. My adult children call this “pre-gaming”. Tailgating can go on for hours and gives you an opportunity to visit with friends, fellow classmates, and your parking lot neighbors.
