Beltline Walk Piedmont Park to Fourth Ward Part Two
Beltline Walk Piedmont Park to Fourth Ward Part Two
After working much of MLK Day Tim and I took advantage of a warm and sunny January day for a Beltline Walk Piedmont Park to Fourth Ward. Our starting point was the Kroger parking lot on Monroe Drive (park between Kroger and Bank of America and walk through chain link fence gate to Beltline) near mile
See a commentary on the first park of the walk HERE.
As you leave Piedmont Park, crossover Monroe Drive at the traffic light and enter a paved section of the Atlanta Beltline.
We started to see more people on bikes and skateboards in this section. There were also more families out with strollers and dogs. The paved path is large enough to accommodate all this activity without a problem.
As we walked along the section south of Monroe Dr and 10 St we started to see lots of new construction for multifamily residential. Lots of new condos and lofts are being built along the section from Monroe to East Ponce de Leon Road.
As we neared Ponce de Leon Road Tim noted the shopping area where Home Depot is located was the baseball field where the Atlanta Crackers professional baseball team played. His father, JL English shared lots of memories about the minor league games played and the magnolia tree in the outfield that was “in play” when a ball was knocked into it.
The Sears Building on Ponce de Leon is being converted to Condos and looks like it might have units for sale in 2014. Walking further south on the Beltline, particularly in the North Ave area and Ralph McGill area, we started to see Condominiums that are occupied. I have shown units in a lot of these buildings and have clients who live in this area.
The Fourth Ward Skate Park was hopping with activity as skate boarders were doing jumps and tricks on the concrete installations. There is a public restroom here as well.
After crossing under Freedom Parkway, start looking on your left for some older brick buildings with “Fourth Ward” painted on the back. Exit here and make your way to Barcelona Wine Bar where a bottle of Rioja and Tapas make a nice reward for your outdoor exercise. The Beltline Walk Piedmont Park to Fourth Ward is about 4.5 miles.
