Henderson Middle School Construction of Traffic Lane Has Started
Henderson Middle School Construction of Traffic Lane Has Started- Much to the dismay of the surrounding neighborhood, DeKalb County Schools has started construction on a traffic lane that is supposed to relieve the traffic congestion created when parents in automobiles pick up their children from Henderson Middle school.
The new traffic lane is being constructed so more cars can line up to wait for their children to be released from school.
Adjacent neighbors have long been concerned about the safety of Henderson Mill School children as parents parked along Bolero Drive and children were released virtually unsupervised to cross Bolero Drive to the waiting cars of their parents.
I have personally had near misses as children darted out in to the street without warning. Thank goodness I was driving slowly and alertly.
This is a project that, in the mind of many neighbors, is designed to fail. We do not believe parents will use the traffic lane as many are coming from east of HMS and have shown no propensity to use already existing parking areas to wait for their children.
These same parents have ignored the no parking signs along Bolero Drive. We understand the parents do not want to make the children walk a longer distance. But this practice is inherently unsafe for the children.
Neighborhood representatives worked tirelessly to communicate our dissatisfaction with the project to DeKalb School representatives. Our pleas fell on deaf ears.
We can only hope the safety of our children has been improved.
