HISTORY OF BRIARMOOR SUBDIVISION: When DeKalb was being converted from Dairy farms to subdivisions, Briarmoor Manor was one of the early developments along Briarcliff Road.
Briarmoor Manor lies in a quadrant bounded by Briarcliff Road, Shallowford Road and then other subdivisions that go all the way through to Henderson Mill Road. Car traffic is low and foot traffic is high.
Hawthorne Elementary School anchors Briarmoor Manor Subdivision. I attended Hawthorne’s annual Realtors open house and have been impressed with the leadership and teachers at the school. Hawthorne has re-claimed its position as a top quality school in the DeKalb County system and was honored as a Georgia School of Excellence. This is in no little part due to the very active participation of Briarmoor Manor parents.
Residents can also enjoy the private Briarmoor Swim Club located just beyond the elementary School. Lots of summer splashing and fun.
The homes in Briarmoor Manor were built in the 60s and the architectural styles are mostly traditional. There are brick ranches and two story homes. Some homes have basements.Commuting to Emory and The CDC is not a problem as you can shoot down Briarcliff and over on Clairmont to the EMory Area. I usually jog over to LaVista and then cut down Houston Mill. Also, because Briarmoor Manor is inside the perimeter, traffic downtown is usually light traveling in on I-85. The really big jams usually occur on I-285 and then on I-85 outside the perimeter
