HENDERSON PARK has a Great Children’s Playground
Did you know Henderson Park in Tucker Georgia has a great Children’s playground. This secret surprises many local residents because the entrance to the playground area takes a bit of local knowledge. The playground is located at the back of the park and can only be accessed from the Chamblee-Tucker Road side of the park.
Henderson Park is most visible from the Henderson Road side of the park. There are lots of soccer fields on this side of the park that can easily be seen from Henderson Road as you drive by. But you can not easily access the playground area from this side of the park.
DIRECTIONS TO HENDERSON PARK CHILDRENS PLAYGROUND
Take I-285 to the LaVista Road exit. Turn on LaVista Road in the direction of Tucker (outside the perimeter). Take a left on Chamblee-Tucker Road. Note Tucker Animal Hospital is at corner of LaVista Road and Chamblee-Tucker Road. Also, Tucker High School is on the far side of the intersection. Take a left on Livsey Road. Note: Livsey Elementary School is at the corner of Chamblee-Tucker Road and Livsey Road. Turn left on Henderson Park Rd/Livsey Court and enter the park. Drive around the large soccer field to the back of the park. There is a parking area adjacent to the playground. DO NOT leave valuables in the car while you are on the playground. Park only in designated parking spaces as the local police love to give out parking tickets here.
LAKE ERIN located adjacent to the Children’s Playground
Henderson Park’s Lake Erin is located adjacent to the Children’s playground. This is a great lake for fishing, testing out your kayak or giving your dog a swim and having your dog retrieve balls from the water. No motorized craft allowed on the lake. Lots of people feed the ever present ducks and Canadian geese that call the lake home.
Henderson Park PICNIC Pavilion located next to Chilren’s PlaygorundBring a pinic lunch to Henderson Park and enjoy the nice Pinic Pavilion located between the playgrounds and the lake. Picnic tables in a covered area so you can get out of the rain or sun for a nice al fresco meal.
FISHING IN LAKE ERIN AT HENDERSON PARK
You can fish for bass, bream, catfish, and crappie at Lake Erin in Henderson Park. This lake gets a good bit of fishing pressure so live bait may work best. Crickets and worms will be the best baits for younger fishermen and fisher-women as they are sure to attract attention from the panfish. Even bread rolled up into tight balls will get a look from the bream in the lake. Use small hooks, a weight (small splitshot) and a bobber/cork for fishing action. Fishing is always best in the morning and evening when light is low.
HIKING IN HENDERSON PARK
There are nature trails around Lake Erin and a longer trail that connects the Playground area with the Henderson Road soccer fields side of the park. The area is wooded. There is poison oak/poison ivy along the trail so stay away from vines and plants that heve three leaves.
MOUNTAIN BIKING BEGINNER TRAIL AT HENDERSON PARK. When hiking pressure is low the trials around Henderson Park are a great place for beginners to get some mountain biking experience. The trails are in the wooded area of the park and do have some gradient sections. Watch out for hikers and small children!
HENDERSON PARK BIRD WATCHING. Serious bird watchers know Henderson Park as a premium bird watching destination. The Atlanta Audubon Society frequently sponsors field trips to Henderson park as it is a great site to see multiple species during fall and spring migrations. Patrick Brisse, a Tucker birder has compiled a great list of birds you might see during trips to Henderson Park. The variety of birds that can be seen at Henderson park is truly amazing. The lake and marshy areas are your best bets for seeing raely seen birds in Georgia.
HENDERSON PARK HAS FOUR TENNIS COURTS. Four tennis courts are located on the Chamblee-Tucker road side fo the park. They are located next to soccer field number 6. Go around the soccer field to the parking lot just below the tennis courts.
DIRECTIONS TO HENDERSON PARK SOCCER FIELDS-
Most of the Henderson Park soccer fields (fields 1 through 5) are located on the Henderson Road side of the Park. The TYSA map shows the location of all Henderson Park soccer fields. Note that Henderson Park soccer field number six is located on the Chamblee-Tucker Road side fo the park (where the playground, lake, tennis courts and hiking trails are also located).

TYSA SOCCER FIELDS 1,2,3,4 and 5 at Henderson Park are located at 2803 Henderson Road Tucker Georgia 30084.
- From I-285.
- Take exit #37 (old exit #28), Lavista Road (GA 236) and turn left (east) onto Lavista Road.
- Stay on Lavista Road for 1.6 miles. You’ll come to an intersection with a traffic light. The cross-road is marked Henderson Road on the left and Brockett Road on the right
- Turn left onto Henderson Road.
- Fields are on your right. There are two entrances to the park.
- Fields 1, 2, 3: Henderson Park is on the right after 1.0 miles. Use the park’s first entrance for fields 1, 2 and 3. The first entrance isn’t clearly marked, so it’s easy to miss. If you miss it, just use the main entrance (clearly marked), park in the big lot and walk down the stairs to fields 1-3.
- Fields 4 & 5: Use the second (main) entrance for fields 4 and 5.

TYSA SOCCER FIELD 6 at Henderson Park: See directions above to Children’s Playground. Soccer field 6 can not be accessed from the Henderson Road side of the park unless you take a ten or fifteen minute walk along the nature trail that connects the two sides of the park
