Beltline Walk Piedmont Park to Fourth Ward Part One
Beltline Walk Piedmont Park to Fourth Ward Part One
After working much of MLK Day Tim and I took advantage of a warm and sunny January day for a Beltline Walk Piedmont Park to Fourth Ward. Our starting point was the Kroger parking lot on Monroe Drive (park between Kroger and Bank of America and walk through chain link fence gate to Beltline) near mile
The walk from the Kroger parking lot to Piedmont park passes by Ansley golf course, the back of some houses in Ansley Park, crosses Clear Creek and goes under Piedmont Ave. The path here is gravel and uneven. This is NOT a scenic section and has several spots where urban outdoorsman (our homeless friends) have camped out. I will probably skip it next time.
We entered Piedmont Park on the Beltline path and the scenery was dramtically improved. You are still walking on a gravel path but there is lots to see and do in Piedmont Park. We also started to see art installations and people jogging, walking dogs and simply strolling the Beltline path.
It was a beautiful sunny day and people were enjoying the meadows in Piedmont Park, the dog park (fenced area where dogs can run without a leash, also restrooms).
Along the way we passed the back of Amsterdam Cafe where you could stop for a refreshment, drink, or burger and sit on their patio.
As you are leaving Piedmont Park there is the awesome Park Tavern. We wished we had parked our car in the Piedmont Park parking lot behind Park tavern (at the corner of Monroe and 10th street – across from Grady High School football stadium)
