Closing Livsey Elementary School Among Dumbest DeKalb School Decisions Ever

For generations Evansdale Elementary School in Tucker Georgia has been successfully educating children and preparing them for middle school and high school.  Livsey Elementary School has been seen as a role model for parent involvement.  Livsey Elementary School PTA has many past accomplishments and the achievements of teachers and staff at Livsey have been well noted.

All this has been cast aside by a proposal to close Livsey Elementary School.  Closing Livsey Elementary School is one of the single dumbest proposals I have seen from DeKalb Schools.  Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson apparently thinks this type decision can be made in less than 30 days WITHOUT input from community stakeholders and by a School Board that has three members vacating their seats come Jan 1.

Closing Livsey Elementary School Among Dumbest DeKalb School Decisions EverI am not particularly politically astute but it looks to me as if someone is trying to railroad a decision down the throats of the DeKalb County residents who live in the Livsey School District.

DeKalb School “management” is telling us they are just trying to take advantage of $40 million in State funds that would be available if they made changes to the attendance districts.  Oh yeah, so why is it we need to float a new bond to “pay” for the changes that will result in $40 million from the state.

I’m not buying it.  We are not being given justification for closing Livsey School. No studies have been performed and a single opportunity to voice our disagreement is not adequate.
