City of Tucker 2015 Vote Yes

City of Tucker 2015 Vote Yes

VOTE-YES-TUCKERCity of Tucker 2015 Vote Yes on the referendum to incorporate Tucker.  It is long past time to incorporate Tucker as a distinct City in DeKalb County, Georgia.  Most people are surprised to learn Tucker is not presently a City but just a neighborhood in unincorporated DeKalb County.  Tucker has been around longer than most of the cities in Georgia yet we do not have local control of zoning, parks and streets.  As a real estate agent who annually lists and sells 20 to 30 homes a year in Tucker – I urge you to vote “yes” to the City of Tucker proposal on the November 2, 2015 referendum.

When I list a home for sell in Tucker, one of the obstacles I face is trying to define Tucker as a “place”  It is easy to point to Tucker Main Street and even Tucker High School as landmarks – but there are no boundaries that define Tucker.  Even more than that there is not a specific group of people or residents that define Tucker from a marketing standpoint.  I think Cityhood would go a long way towards making Tucker more competitive with Decatur, Chamblee and other DeKalb County neighborhoods that have chosen to incorporate.

Will creating a City of Tucker result in higher property taxes?  The studies say no.  But my thoughts are even if the answer is yes – it is still a good deal.  The increased value of Tucker real estate as a result of this forward and progressive step towards self- government will more than compensate for any minor increase in property tax that results.

Vote yes and move Tucker from a dependency on a centralized DeKalb County government that has not been sensitive to the needs of the Tucker neighborhood.  Vote yes for the City of Tucker and help erase the stain of elected officials who have been convicted in a court of law for theft and fraud.  Vote yes for the City of Tucker and create an entity that is looking critically at local problems and seeking a solution that works for the primary stakeholders – Tucker residents.
